What is the 90-Day Tithing Challenge?
90-Day Tithing Challenge - This is to help our members reach the goal of tithing.. In the book of Malachi, the Scripture says to test the Lord with our tithes to see if He will not be faithful. This is our way of helping you to accept God’s challenge. We encourage you to begin tithing for 90 days. After 90 days, if you believe God has not been faithful to you, CrossRoads will return to you all you gave during this time. Here are the steps:
- Enroll in the challenge - You will be able to enroll next week.
- Begin tithing - Give your tithe every time you are paid for the next 90 days.
- Use the 90-Day Tithing Challenge Dropdown. Make sure you choose this dropdown each time you give during this time.
- Watch God's Faithfulness—We encourage you to journal and observe how God takes care of you during this time.
- If you feel God has not been faithful, contact one of our pastors, and we will give back to you the same amount you gave during this time.
- To request your offering to be returned to you, you will need to ask for this within ten days after your 90 days starts so keep track of when you start.
Why do we encourage tithing?
Many churches teach that God commands us to tithe. However, in the Old Testament, there were many different types of tithes required by God that would have totaled more than ten percent of a person's yearly gross income. In the New Testament, we are taught to pray and ask the Lord how much we should give. For this reason, it is difficult, from a Biblical perspective, to gather from the Scriptures that God requires a tithe today. However, all things in the Old Testament are moral laws that continue today, such as the Ten Commandments, which were laws intended to teach principles that would endure throughout the church age. We believe tithing to be one of those things.
We believe God wants us to tithe because it orients us toward God through faith in God and generosity.
What is a tithe?
The Old Testament model of offerings consisted of tithes and offerings. Tithes were offerings that reflected ten percent of a person's gross income each time they collected income of any sort. In today's culture, a tithe is ten percent of a regular employee's gross income before taxes are taken out.
What are the Biblical principles of tithing that still make it relevant today?
- God accepts the tithe as a symbol of the whole. He only asked for ten percent but credited the people as if they had given Him all they had. All of our money belongs to God, and He has asked us to manage it according to His desires.
- Tithing reminds us that God is our Provider, and we do not provide for ourselves. When we only give what we can afford, we show no faith that God will provide. Instead, we have faith in our ability to care for ourselves. When we are trusting our ability to provide for ourselves, this is the God of Mammon that we are warned of when the Bible says we cannot serve both God and money.
- Tithing reminds us to give to the Lord sacrificially. Ten percent represents a significant amount, so we are not just giving what we can afford. In this way, we follow the principle of sacrifice.
- God intends tithing to help us trust Him more. Tithing is a system of giving that God established to help us give regularly and sacrificially. We are learning with every paycheck to trust God with our future.
New Giving Choices
What are the new choices?
Campus Giving - This is for all of your offerings. All campus giving is used to budget the overall budget for all campuses. The elected Church Board oversees it. Though this amount goes into a general fund rather than individual campuses, we have kept each campus as a choice to help us know the income of each campus to facilitate a budget that reflects positive stewardship. This is being done because the Church Board is more aware of every campus's needs, allowing them to disperse the income needed to benefit all campuses.
Legacy Giving—Legacy giving is for those who are tithing and God has blessed them to give more to help the ministry expand to more people. These are large projects or items that are not necessarily needed immediately but would allow CrossRoads to continue to expand as the Lord leads. These include large building projects, renovations, etc.
90-Day Tithing Challenge - Explained above. Please use this choice only after filling out the form.
Community Giving—Community giving is for those who are tithing and God is calling them to give more toward the community. These funds will be used for CrossRoads' compassionate ministries to the poor. These ministries may also have special offerings at different times of the year.
Why are we changing our choices?
Our main goal is each person's spiritual health. This is a higher priority than buildings, facilities, and expansion. Our highest priority is your relationship with God. And because the Bible says we cannot serve both God and money, God is teaching us that money management plays a very large role in our relationship with Him. We have changed our choices to prioritize the goal of tithing for all our members.
